Welcome to our research group
In the White Research Group we are focused on the creation of new materials that display autonomic functionality. We take our inspiration from biology where autonomous systems are common and the rule. Perhaps the most recognizable manifestation is self-healing – inspired by biological healing and realized in structural polymers and composites. Beyond healing, we seek to impart a variety of autonomous functions in engineering materials including thermal management, regeneration, reconfiguration, damage detection, threat assessment, self-sensing, anti-corrosion, anti-fouling, and remodeling. Our group is highly interdisciplinary with students represented from a variety of engineering and scientific disciplines including aerospace, material science, chemistry, mechanics, and civil engineering.
